JOHNSON COUNTY - Latest News

The Kansas legislature passed the Kansas Clean Indoor Air Act making all public places and workplaces statewide smoke free, including restrictions in bars and restaurants.  The law becomes effective on July 1, 2010, and provides exemptions for private clubs in existence before Jan. 1, 2009, tobacco retail shops, 20% of hotel rooms and casino floors throughout the state.

For Johnson County this mean their 2007 smoking ordinance will remain in effect.  The ordinance includes an exemption for two private clubs located within the unincorporated areas of Johnson County.

We would like to thank the Johnson County Commissioners and citizens for taking the initiative and passing a smoke free ordinance in 2007.
