WESTWOOD - Latest News The Kansas legislature passed the Kansas Clean Indoor Air Act making all public places and workplaces statewide smoke free, including restrictions in bars and restaurants. The law becomes effective on July 1, 2010, and provides exemptions for private clubs in existence before Jan. 1, 2009, tobacco retail shops, 20% of hotel rooms and casino floors throughout the state. Westwood passed a city-wide smoking ordinance in 2007 that allowed exemptions for private clubs and retail tobacco shops. All hotels in Westwood will comply with the state's restriction of no more than 20% of a hotel's rooms will allow smoking. Any private club located within Westwood will be included in all statewide smoking restrictions. We would like to that the City Council and citizens of Westwood for taking the intiative with their 2007 smoking ordinance. See Metro Smoke-Free Cities Progress |
